Looking forward to November and eventually President Obama

First time diary,,

First, a little backround. I've been voting Democrat since I was eligible in 1992 and voted for Bill Clinton. Personally, I thought he was a good President. Not great, but after 12 years of Reagan/Bush..we needed him. I thought he was too quick to side with the GOP on some issues, but we did have a good economy.

Honestly, we would have been better off had Gore won in 2000. Stupid SC decision (anyone who is still thinking of voting for McCain because Hillary lost the primary should factor that decision along with Roe.V.Wade)

In any case, to the present..I really did want to support Hillary. Having the first female president was part of it, and nostalgia for the 1990s was another part. But take those two away, and I was left with someone who voted for the Iraq war, voted for the bankruptcy bill of 2002, and someone who felt she was entitled to the DNC nomination. So I was turned off a bit by all that.

Fortunately, Obama was another option. A fresh start..similiar to what we had in 1992, good speaker, and someone who can see a positive future after 8 years of Bush. And his policies are fairly similiar to hers. Pro-choice, incentives for college, ending the war in Iraq.

But here we are today, the economy is a mess, we're stuck in Iraq after 5 years, the housing market is depressed, health care is getting more expensive, and the Democrats have an opportunity to elect someone in a landslide..

...except...only the Democratic party..has among some of its members...the mentality that its better to LOSE an election because of (give whatever excuse you want) than to swallow some pride and vote for the nominee even if he or she is not your favorite.

Sorry, but that is baloney.

If McCain wins...the Mexico City Policy will remain the same which blocks federal funding for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) which provide or promote services related to abortion.

If McCain wins..and Stevens retires...he'll be replaced by another conservative judge.

If McCain wins...labor will still suffer..especially working women (of which I am one).

And et-cetera.

Now I realize some are hurt that Hillary lost the nomination. I understand that. People put all their effort into a campaign, only the result wasn't what you wanted. I understand.

My issue..is those of you who want to have something in common with Nader supporters. That you would rather sit home..or vote McCain...than vote Obama because Hillary lost. I'd like to throw one of my high heels at those people for being so ignorant.

Women should especially support Obama over McCain...ESPECIALLY when it comes to reproductive freedom and labor rights.

So thats my diary, and I challenge anyone to give a reason why women ..or anyone..should bail out on the DNC because Hillary isn't our nominee.

Oohrah, cheesehead- how's it going up there in the Frozen North? I'm glad to be out of there and in Virginia, that's all I can say. ;)

I have pretty much the same history. (2.00 / 5)

I was an HRC supporter until May of last year.  It was very exciting for me to finally have a woman candidate who could actually win.  I was extremely upset that she had voted for the war.  Now I didn't just jump on the bandwagon about this.  I was upset in 2002 when I was protesting the war, but I still supported her despite liking Obama.  I thought well he can be her VP.  And then I saw his video protesting the war.  That did it for me.  Even though people told me there was no way Obama would beat her, I still campaigned my heart out for him beginning last summer.  He had the courage to stand up for what was right when it was not popular.  That's not the only reason I support him, but it was what turned me from HRC to him.

It was extremely difficult for me to relinquish my chance to vote for the first viable female candidate, but it was a consolation for me to vote for the first viable black candidate.

I just want a dem. (2.00 / 4)

I don't even care who at this point.  I just want a dem in the white house again.

A dem will at least listen to us (the people).

Re: Looking forward to November and eventually Pre (none / 0)

McCain has been our man in the GOP party for 2 DECADES.

I will vote for him.

polls say 24% of the democratic party majority that supported Hillary will also vote for him.

Obama made his race with non democratic party members and that is likely where he will have to look to replace our votes.

Where was Dean and Pelosi when the GOP voters are allowed to over rule our choice?

If there is no benefit to being a party member then we will vote GOP in the general.

If you want us back FIX THE PRIMARY

1)  NO caucuses

2)  NO states not counted EVER

3)  NO GOP voters having more say than democrats like GOP votes in Alaska having 10 times the impact that votes in California have.

4)  While we are at it all primaries should be closed.

If you are serious about democracy these are all very reasonable demands.

D,

since this is a Democratic party blog, I'm curious: at what point will you stop posting here?

You've made yourself crystal clear: you're voting for John McCain in November. How is that relevant to the work of a Democratic party blog trying to get Democrats elected?

Do you have an endpoint in mind?

Where the hell were you? (none / 0)

When I was making the same demands last August?

I'm an Obama supporter and I know if the primary had been run my way, he would've lost, but it wasn't, no one change the rules then, and YOU sure as hell weren't screaming from the rooftops then.

The process played out, deal with it, and if you really want to vote for McCain, then I don't really want you back because clearly you have no principles and no real stances on issues and quite frankly you don't really have any real stake in Hillary's agenda if you could possibly vote for that man.

The American people; they were for the war before they were against it.

60 years later..... (none / 0)

....and we are having a replay of the Dixiecrats.  Well Truman won without them in 1948, and the rest of us will have to make up the difference in 2008 for those who bolt now.

And don't let the door hit you in the tushie on the way out.
